Pegasus in Flight- Modern Myth Making with Milagros C. Rivera
When Perseus struck off the head of Medusa, there sprang from her Chrysaor and the horse Pegasus.
From a Greek epic: and when he (Bellerophon) began to roam, his father (Poseidon) gave him Pegasus who would bear him most swiftly on his wings, and flew unwearying everywhere over the Earth, for like the gales he could course along. With him Bellerophon caught and slew the fire breathing Chimera.
Pegasus rose up to the seats of the immortals, and afterwards lived in the palace of Zeus, for whom he carried thunder and lightning. To this day you can see his constellation in the sky!
Back in August 27 there was a feast in the sky, planets Mars and Saturn were aligned and really close to Earth. We had the opportunity to look through a telescope and see them. The rings of Saturn were clearly visible as well as a couple of its moons! Talk about inspiration when you see for real what you've read in books all your life!
I had been studying this piece from the RELICS & ARTIFACTS® set Mythos. It looked like Pegasus to me and I decided that since he had wings I wanted him to actually fly!
Inspiration is such a crazy thing because after seeing Saturn I knew what I wanted to make! I sometimes have a clear, photograph-like vision, of what I want to create! Those come to me with no intructions whatsoever. Working the first set of beads for my Imperial Egg pendant helped me steer into that direction. I wanted to make more ICE Resin® pieces. I wanted them to carry my horse in flight, I also had this crazy idea that I could use ICE Resin® as a kind of soldering element to fuse my pieces just the way I wanted. And Wow, seeing it work blew my mind!
You know the wonderful thing is that it lays so comfortably in your neck, like it's meant to be there. The beads are not heavy and they seem to be floating around like on a constellation in the sky. It truly is one of those statement pieces, a showstopper that have people coming to you and asking about it! This was a joy to create! I'm hoping this inspires you to give our latest challenge a go, #RAExploreThePossibilities . As there truly are so many possibilities when you pair them both, My horse was sealed in ICE Resin® as well.
