RELICS & ARTIFACTS® Ambassador Snapshot Chrissy Colón

Here we are once again announcing our latest Rock Star Ambassador! Over past few months we have been seeing the amazing vision Chrissy has for RELICS & ARTIFACTS® and her ability to take them places we never imagined. She approached us, we approached her and what an addition to our Team she is.

Now, let's spend some time and get to know her. Welcome aboard Chrissy!!

Chrissy lives in Okinawa with her husband, children, and dogs. She comes to us via a journey through the world of paper crafting, altered art, home decor, and jewelry making. She describes her style as eclectic and finds inspiration in the wide world around her.

We sat down and asked her a few questions:

What fills your time when you are not creating?

When I’m not sitting at my craft table, you can find me in a number of different places pursuing a number of different hobbies.  I love to workout so during the week, you can find my at my local crossfit gym.  If it’s the weekend and the weather is nice, I’ll be at the beach with my kids or ninety feet under the water with a SCUBA tank strapped to my back.  I also love to be outdoors hiking or just going for a drive, camera in hand.

What are your favorite materials to use when you create?

My go-to list is ever evolving so it’s very difficult to narrow it down to just a couple items.  I always have a use for Verday and my newest paint love affair is the Art Alchemy paint by Finnabair.  I love working with ribbons and fibers.  My newest love is incorporating beads and wire into my work.

Where do you find inspiration for your art and how do you stay inspired?

I’m a believer in that inspiration is always around us.  I can find inspiration from anything whether it be the way the sun lights up the beautiful East China Sea to the current mood I may be in.  I always notice color and pattern mixes.  I see them in storefront windows or in the way someone has planted their garden.  Sometimes I start with a color palette or an image.  Others I may start with a bare bones project or substrate.

Of course, I do peruse Pinterest as there’s always a pool of inspiration to draw from if you search long enough.

What is your signature style?

I’ve always had a hard time describing my style when it comes to my creativity.  The best way I can think to put words to it would be eclectic with a slight whimsical spin, mixed with a dash of technical thought, and frosted with an ever so slight edgy craziness.  I love pulling the rug out from under standard norms and conventionality.

What is something your friends probably don’t know about you?

My closest friends already know this but I am a huge video game geek.  I love spending rainy days geeking out with an epic RPG and between you and me, I would love to dress up and go to ComicCon.

If you could meet with anyone, living or deceased, who do you feel you could spend hours in a chat over a cup of tea/coffee?

If I could sit and chat with anyone, it would be my dad.  He’s always been my hero ever since I can remember.  I have so much that I want to tell him and share with him and so many moments that I wish I had spent more wisely.
