Cameo Necklace with RELICS & ARTIFACTS® Ambassador Chrissy Colón
For some time now, I have been wanting to try my hand at crafting some jewelry. And I'm not talking the half-hearted attempt at a piece which will inevitably be handed down to my daughters because I just won't wear it. I'm talking about a full blown, "big girl", all adult-like piece that I would definitely wear.
I was so inspired by Sandra's recent photo of a cameo that she painted to resemble turquoise. The colors, the simplicity, the timelessness of the piece was truly remarkable. That beautiful piece led to this one.
The draping of the layered chains was actually an accident. I had bumped the lower chain up with my elbow and when I looked at it, I saw it from a different perspective and realized THIS was the design it needed to have.
Talk about beautiful simplicity with just a twist of my usual eclectic weirdness! The cameo which finishes this necklace was so super easy to do, it's almost laughable. All I did was paint it with a wet brush and some Opal Magic paint. I let the water do the work and the paint settled within the contours of the cameo perfectly. That wonderful "bumpy" background is done using the simplest of tools, a dry round paint brush and a few dabs.
People who are familiar with me and my quirks know that I am a sucker (or a glutton for punishment) for anything that could be so tedious and challenging, it would land you into the loony bin. This necklace is no different. Each one of those itty bitty Finnabair micro beads was applied one by one using a needle!
So here I am, finally, with a piece of jewelry I made that I can't wait to wear. I definitely am going to try a few more complex pieces in the future but for now, I'm going to wait for eyes to become uncrossed. Until then, grab yourself some leftover chain and a fabulous Cameo and get to crafting!
