And Then There Were Nine... We are beyond happy to announce the newest addition to our Amazing RELICS & ARTIFACTS®Ambassador Team, Heather Tracy. We've been in love with her work for so long and now our dream is a reality.
Heather Tracy is a happily recovering office worker turned full time Blogger / Mixed Media Experimenter / Furniture Therapist. A caregiver for her Mother, she lives in Connecticut with her husband, and dog. She spends every spare moment making joyful messes and exploring unconventional approaches to creative work. She loves to find new uses for unexpected items from the hardware store or pantry, and can't resist dumpster diving from time to time. She is currently a contributing Techniques Editor at The Graphics Fairy, where she posts each week, sharing crafting tutorials and up-cycled furniture projects. Her main gig is running the blog Thicketworks and creating Mixed Media projects and tutorials.
Join us in a little Q&A with the Artist:
What fills your time when you are not creating?
Heather from Thicketworks: Ideas of techniques to try and of projects waiting patiently to be born constantly flood my thoughts - in between I try to stay ahead of the laundry and cook a meal or two for my tolerant and loving family! If I could create artistic messes every waking moment, I would...
What are your favorite materials to use when you create?
Heather from Thicketworks: While I have a love of fine materials, my favorite thing in the world is to transform a humble, discarded object into the vehicle for a creative experiment. Cigar boxes, thrift store finds, junk on the side of the road all hold a special place in my heart. Having said that, I'm an art supply junkie, with an embarrassingly enormous amount of tools and materials at my disposal. Paper, wood, fabric, metal: all find their way into my work. Of course, I'm smitten with all Relics & Artifacts offerings: never have I discovered elements that lend themselves so readily to the creative process.
Where do you find inspiration for your art and how do you stay inspired?
Heather from Thicketworks: All of life is an inspiring experience. The nuance of human interaction, the enormity of the natural world, the inner workings of the heart...I'm in love with life, and it rewards me with an endless stream of inspiration. I'm a firm believer in using everything life has given you, both joyful and challenging, and transmuting those experiences into creative expression.
What is your signature style?
Heather from Thicketworks: Much like my interests, my 'style' reflects whatever causes me pleasure at the moment. You could say I favor 'grunge', but only in certain moods. I've been known to create a shabby chic piece one moment and a gloriously Gothic piece the next!
What is something your friends probably don’t know about you?
Heather from Thicketworks: That I secretly LOVE to operate heavy machinery. Yep - put me in the cab of a bulldozer and I'm a happy camper!
If you could meet with anyone, living or deceased, who do you feel you could spend hours in a chat over a cup of tea/coffee?
Heather from Thicketworks: I'd love to walk the moors with Charlotte Bronte, musing on the ironies of human folly...
What is your favorite quote?
Heather from Thicketworks: “The soul, fortunately, has an interpreter - often an unconscious but still a faithful interpreter - in the eye.” ― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
