This luminous faux opal cameo is nearly completely handmade. The idea began with a desire for an antique carved opal pendant I saw. Bent with lust for that gorgeous play of color I decided to try and make one. After experimenting this is the end result and I am really pleased. Beginning with a lovely but partially broken antique cameo face, I added hand sculpted floral detail, repaired her nose and added a thicker oval base. Then cast with a mixture of synthetic opal, silicates for heft and dimension and a few other base components, hand painted to pop up the features, sealed to preserve paint and lastly buffed with a thin layer of wax. It has a soft luster and sheen. The end result is an heirloom quality cameo ready to be worked into your own special creation whether that be a pendant surrounded by pearls, a chunky ring with corals or a cuff bracelet with turquoise stones or a brooch. Your vision can become a reality with this as its focal point.
